If you’ve been wondering what it’s like to optimize your website for search engines on a mobile device, it’s a lot like optimizing your website for traditional search. There are some subtle differences, but it’s mostly the same. For one thing, keywords and links are still the rule.
You are probably better off building a mobile.domainname subdomain on your website. You want mobile phone users to be able to interact with the mobile version of your site separately than your primary website because mobile browsers are lighter than normal web browsers. Because of that you want the code on your mobile site to be leaner and cleaner. Otherwise, you could have some slow load speeds. As you know, slow load speeds will hurt you in the search engines.
Another thing to think about in mobile website design is to not get too graphic intensive. Again, mobile browsers are not as heavy as normal web browsers so keep it light. And be sure to submit your mobile site to search engines.
Other than that, mobile search optimization is a lot like traditional optimization. Build each page around a single keyword and use links to build inbound anchor text and traffic. The rest, as they say, is gravy.
